Naples, FL
9/15/1948 to 2/14/2014
Gary is survived by his sweet bride, Paula Dustin; brothers, John David and Charles Michael; sons, Justin Randal and Jeffrey Randal and his wife, Shanon; and grandsons, Gavin Randal Bruton and Chase Parker Bruton.
Gary over-achieved when he married Paula. Deeply in love and committed to her, 'Honey' was the love of his life and the encouragement he needed to navigate his way through some tough passages.
Central to the life and work of Naples Community Church, he worshiped faithfully, participated in Bible study, served on the Board of Trustees, assisted in administering the Sacraments, and became a dear friend to the pastor.
A highly successful executive with American Airlines and Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines, he found the best job of his life when he went to work with St. Matthew's House. It was to him a great challenge but deeply satisfying as he saw hundreds of lives transformed through the redemptive love of God. This work is a 'miracle-a-day' he was fond of saying.
A man of his humor, warmth and intelligence is rare; highly accomplished yet disarming in his humility, Gary was profoundly loved and admired. In the words of one in the program at St. Matt's, 'Mr. Bruton was a man I hold in the highest regard a man of integrity, valor, competence, dignity, and most of all compassion for his children here at St. Matt's. Early in my recovery he believed in me when I didn't believe in myself. With God at the helm I have not and will not betray the trust he bestowed on me. Gary always said I could come to him with anything, and I did. I will miss you like a father and hope and pray I can become half the man you were!
