DANVILLE - LeRoy Clarence Ellis, 90, of Danville, formerly of Springfield, passed this life at 9:58 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2007, at the V.A. Illiana Health Care System.
Mr. Ellis served in the U.S. Air Force in India and Tinian, repairing radar in airplanes. He was principal at Ogden Elementary School and worked as an electrical engineer for Sangamo Electric Co. and General Electric in Kentucky. He was a devoted minister at the local congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses.
He leaves behind a loving, faithful companion of 58 years, Naomi Ellis; two daughters, Anita Roberds of Springfield, Ohio, and Barbara Broome of Danville; a son, Howard Ellis of Chatham; a grandson, Elijah Broome; and two sisters, Kathleen Van Raden of Rockford and Rosemary Ellis of Peoria. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
LeRoy sang for weddings and played the trombone in orchestras. He also loved to travel and visit museums. Most of all, LeRoy loved serving God in the door-to-door ministry, along with his faithful companion.
His warm smile and gentle grace will be missed by all.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 10, 2007, at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 619 E. Voorhees St. Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9, 2007, at Leek & Sons Funeral Home, 304 E. Williams St. Interment will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.
