Larry's life began on November 27, 1935 in El Dorado, KS; the son of Lawrence and Irene (Seglem) McCaffree. He lived most of his life in Butler County and graduated from El Dorado High School. He met the love of his life, JoAnne (JoDee) Dunlap (who also loved horses) when she and her family moved to the farm. They were married December 23, 1955 and shared 63 years of marriage. Larry loved to rope and break colts while being taught and mentored by Marshall Hoy. He worked hard for his family, ranching at the Satchell Creek Ranch and Strait Ranch, raising cattle, putting up hay and welding for Pester Refinery. His fondest memories are of living in Cassoday, KS; cowboying, riding horseback through tall pasture grass and spending time roping with friends. He enjoyed roping calves, team roping, breaking and showing quarter horses. In 1968 he won Kansas All-Around Horse of the Year with his favorite gelding, Bally. His loving family includes his children: JoLynn Baker of Andover, J.R. (Barb) McCaffree of Leon, Jana (Jim) Gray of Leon, Jarod (Deann) McCaffree of Piedmont; 4 grandsons Myles (Kris) Baker, Jacob Gray, Tristan Gray and Jace McCaffree; step-grandchildren Jenae Brice, Cade and Cooper Minnick, Chance and Colby Bankson; great grandchildren Camden Watzka and Damon Baker; brother Kenny (Parma) McCaffree. Larry passed away on October 4, 2021 at his home. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife JoDee and brother, Keith McCaffree. Friends may gather with the family from 5-7 on Monday, October 11 at Carlson Colonial Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, October 12 at 2pm at Leon Cemetery.
