Harold L. "Bud" "Red" Cosner, age 82 years, a resident of Elkins, passed away Sunday, October 10, 2021 at the home of his daughter, Lori Cosner Ray of Pelham, NC.
He was born August 13, 1939 at Glady, WV, a son of the late Luther "Jake" and Elda "Maemom" Phares Cosner. He was twice married, first on October 30, 1960 at Cumberland, MD, he was married to Marva L. Grose who preceded him in death November 13, 1989. On June 27, 2010, he was married to Helen Workman Heckel who survives in Elkins. Also surviving is one daughter, Lori Cosner Ray of Pelham, NC; one sister, Janet Kerens of Struthers, OH; three grandchildren, Leana Brooks Cosner, Elkins; Kori Alexis Fansler, Ruffin NC; Kyle Brannon Sole; Mebane, NC and one great grandchild, David McCoy of Elkins. Also preceding him in death were two sons, Jeffrey Aaron Cosner and David Lee Cosner; one brother, Luther "Allen" Cosner; two sisters, Mildred "Sue" Cosner Shifflett and Joy "Diane" Cosner Burnside.
He was a Veteran of the United States Marine Corp and worked as a lineman and splicer for Bell Atlantic and Verizon prior to his retirement. He was a member of the Isaak Walton League, Tygart Valley Muzzleloaders, Marine Corp League and the Elkins Church of the Brethren. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved to fish and hunt and instilled those values in his children, nephews, and grandchildren. He was known to all of his family as "Uncle Bud". He always had a detailed story to tell about a long-forgotten memory, and loved to give "dirtroad" directions and shortcuts to destinations across mountains and valleys.
Uncle Bud always had a gleam in his eye, a smile on his face, a pep in his step, and kept going strong until his last moments. He was a loyal man who loved his God, his wives, and all of his extended family. He believed in honest hard work, growing and canning his food. He was a faithful servant.
A special thanks to Mountain Hospice and those who helped care for him in his final days; Mary Jane, Susie, J, Kori, Kyle, Lynda and of course his loving wife Helen. He will be truly missed!
