Andrews, Emily Barnes
A private memorial service was held for Emily Barnes Andrews, who died October 26, 2002 at the age of 75. Emily Barnes was born October 11, 1927 in Coshocton, Ohio. From the Ward Belmont Boarding School in Nashville to Carnegie-Mellon where she earned a degree in Fine Arts, Emily arrived in New York where she acted in Summer Stock.
She toured with Edward Everett Horton, and later received critical acclaim for her performance as Peter Pan on Broadway, while an understudy to Mary Martin. While acting in New York Emily married stage and screen actor Edward Andrews. Her husband's career took them to Los Angeles. He died in 1985.
Emily moved to the Portland area in 1990, where her volunteer work began as a docent for the Portland Art Museum. She was an active member of the Asian, European and American Contemporary Councils and served a two year term as President of the Native American Art Council.
Emily is survived by her three children: a son, Edward Andrews III of Santa Barbara, California; daughters, Tabitha Orth of Beaverton, Oregon and Abigail Neish of Portland, Oregon; brother, Ron Barnes of Youngsville, North Carolina; three nephews and seven grandchildren.
