Nell was married, first, to Luther Rufus Hendren, August 20, 1920. They had one daughter, Margaret Rebecca Hendren. Nell Hendren Green retired from Belk's Department Store, Charlotte, as head of the ladies ready-to-wear department, after 29 years with the company. She was one of the principal buyers for the store. She was an active member of the Charlotte Women's Club and the Myers Park Baptist Church, Charlotte (of which her husband Tom Green was also a member). She was for many years a member of the Charlotte Club of Pilot International. Her favorite hobby was gardening and then canning and freezing each year's crop from her garden at their summer place on Lake Wylie, near Clover, South Carolina.
In 1964, Tom and Nell Green established their own firm, TNG Sales Company (Tom and Nell Green), handling service equipment for the retail petroleum industry. The Greens enjoyed their retirement and traveled widely in the United States, and Caribbean. They were wonderful hosts to friends and adored having family over for just about any occasion. The Tom Greens had no children.
