Sherman Rockel, 80, of Dingess died Dec. 6, 2007. Service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9, at James Funeral Home, Aracoma. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Mount View Cemetery, Maher.

DINGESS, W.Va. — Sherman Rockel, 80, of Dingess, passed away Thursday, December 6, 2007, in CAMC Memorial Division in Charleston.

Born April 18, 1927, in Dingess, he was a son of the late Samuel and Lillie Rakes Rockel. Also preceding him in death was his wife of 53 years, Jane Rockel; one son, Scott Rockel; two brothers, Noah and Carl Rockel; two sisters, Cora Grabowski and Virginia Sturgill, and his grandson, P.J. McCloud.

Sherman was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army as an Airborne.

Survivors include his five sons, Carl David (Connie) Rockel of Williamson, Ricky (Debbie) Rockel of South Point, Ohio, Noah Robert (Glinda) Rockel of New Lebanon, Ohio, and Larry (Debbie) Rockel and Mark (Peggy) Rockel, both of Dingess; four daughters, Linda (Steve) Denny of Pleasant Garden, N.C., Karen (Dennis) McCloud of Dingess, Robin (Larry) Charles of Mill Creek and Tonya (Benjamin) Browning of Kermit; a brother, Ernest (Patsy) Rockel of Hamlin; two sisters, Julia Lawson of North Carolina and Anna Tucker of Cleveland, Ohio; 26 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren, and special friends, Joe Butler, and Jimmy, Denny, Bobby and Tony

Services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, December 9, at the James Funeral Home with Minister Jason Smith and Rev. Greg Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. View Memory Gardens at Maher.

His sons will serve as pallbearers.
