Jerry McNew’s Son Meets With an Accident on the Ranch.
LITTLE BEAR VALLEY.
Telephone Message Summons Physician - Several Ribs Broken.
The son of Jerry McNew (Carl) was badly injured some time yesterday at the ranch in Little Bear valley.
The telephone message summoning Dr. Hazelett did not reach the city until 1 o’clock last night. The physician left immediately for the mountains. The extent of young McNew’s injuries could not be learned but several of his ribs were broken and his condition necessitated quick attention from a physician.

On Jan. 18, 1906, when Carl was 18 yrs. old, his 60 yr. old father Jeremiah McNew, died suddenly at his home at Point of Rocks, near where he had spent most of the 36 years of his residence in San Bernardino county, of rheumatism of the heart "super-induced by a slight cold".

Carl's mother, Ida, married second, Wardman Holmes Jr. on Nov. 3, 1908. They divorced sometime between 1910 and 1920.

In the 1910 U. S. census, 22 yr. old Carl McNew, a self-employed rancher, b. in CA., was unmarried and living alone on a farm he owned free and clear in Oro Grande Village, in Oro Grande, San Bernardino, CA.
Carl's father was b. in IL. and his mother in CA.

On Oct. 18, 1913, Carl marr. first, Sadie Bell Bowlsby in Los Angeles, L. A. county, CA.

On Saturday morning at 8 o’clock, in the Pasadena avenue Presbyterian church, Los Angeles, Miss Sadie Bowlsby became the bride of Carl McNew of Judson. Mrs. McNew was attired in a tailored blue suit with white waist and jaunty white hat.
The ring ceremony was used and those witnessing it were Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Bowlsby of Rialto and Miss Eva Osburn of Santa Ana, an intimate friend of Mrs. McNew.
After the ceremony, Mr. and Mrs. McNew took the boat at San Pedro without leaving any clew as to where their journey was to be. They will visit Mrs. McNew’s father and Mrs. Bowlsby about the first of the week.
Mr. McNew is the owner of an alfalfa ranch at Judson, Cal., where they will make their home.

Aug. 30, 1887 in San Bernardino, CA., was living at 535 Franklin St. in San Bernardino, CA. He was requesting exemption from the draft on the grounds that he was the sole support of his wife and baby.
Carl was described as tall, of medium build, with blue eyes, light hair, and he listed no physical disability which would prevent him from serving in the military.

District No. 1 has already called 1,435 men and a third call of 300 men may be necessary in order to secure the quota of 265 men.
The final day’s examination showed thirty-one absent, twenty-three rejected, twenty-six not claiming exemptions, fifty-five claiming exemptions and forty-seven aliens.

Victorville. - Carl McNew, deputy sheriff and night attendant was confined to the Victor Rest Home with blood poisoning in the right arm. The infection started from a splinter in the finger of the right hand and the poisoning spread rapidly. Dr. Phil Lawler is attending McNew.

Acting to end a marriage of nearly 21 years, Carl McNew filed suit in superior court for a divorce from Salie McNew, alleging desertion.
The couple was married Oct. 18, 1913 and separated Aug. 4, 1934. McNew is represented by Attorney Harold King.

In the 1940 U. S. census, 53 yr. old Carl McNew, a Special Deputy for the county, b. in CA., was living alone in a home (not a farm) he owned, valued at $350 on Fourth St. in Victor, San Bernardino, CA.
Carl was living in the same place in 1935.

Carl worked 30 hours in the week prior to the census and 50 weeks in 1939.

Carl McNew was granted a divorce from Sallie McNew on grounds of desertion. Mr. McNew was represented by Attorney Harold King.

According to his Apr. 26, 1942 WWII Draft Registration card, 54 yr. old Carl (no middle initial) McNew, b. Aug. 30, 1887 in San Bernardino, CA., was living in Victorville and working in Victorville for the County of San Bernardino. The person who would always know his address was Frank Chambers, Postmaster at Victorville.
Carl was described as 5'11 1/2" tall, weighing 180 lbs., with gray eyes, blond hair, a light complexion, and an amp. (amputated?) middle finger on his right hand.

On Sep. 27, 1950, 63 yr. old Carl McNew and 49 yr. old Freda I. Rampley (1901-1984) were married in San Bernardino county, CA.

Funeral services for carl McNew were held at 1 p.m. yesterday in the Mark B. Shaw Memorial chapel with the Rev. Doyle E. Young of Victorville officiating, assisted by Native Sons of the Golden West; Dr. R. S. White, president, and Shirley Myers, chaplain.
Helen Carlisle George, at the organ, played ’Til We Meet Again” and “Beautiful Isle of Somewhere.”
Native Sons officiated at services in Mountain mausoleum. Pallbearers were Ebert C. Robison, Ray Deakins, Darell K. Harshbarger, R. P. Bridges, L. L. Eblen and Gilbert Frilot. Cremation followed in the Mountain View mausoleum.
