Gilbert "Gib" Parman Simpson, a Prineville resident passed away on Monday, February 19, 2007 at Pioneer Memorial Hospital, in Prineville, Oregon. He was 101 years old.
Graveside services will be at 11:00 a.m., on Wednesday, February 21, 2007 at Spray Cemetery, in Spray, Oregon. Janet Warner will be officiating. Gilbert was born in Condon, Oregon on April 18, 1905 to Cass & Helen (Parman) Simpson. Gib was the eldest of 9 children. He grew up in Kahler Basin outside of Spray and then the family sent him to Portland for High School. He graduated 12th grade from Franklin High School in Portland, Oregon. He married Ada Anderson in Vancouver, Washington on December 3, 1935. Gib was instrumental in getting the Sentinel Butte Television Signal and Columbia Power & Electric Co-op in the Spray area. He was an active volunteer with the Spray School Board, and the Spray Rodeo Association, serving as the Grand Marshall in 1992. He worked as the janitor, and clerk in the Spray Schools. He and his family moved to Pendleton in 1961 where he worked for the State of Oregon Game Commission, working with big game, fishing, & birds. He retired from the Game Commission in 1970, and then worked on the Hales Ranch; north of Pendleton, until he was in his 80's. Gib, his wife and sons moved to Prineville in 1986, and spent most of his time with his family. He helped build his daughter Rene's home in Prineville and landscaped his daughter Nova's home in Salem. He enjoyed the outdoors, camping, fishing, hunting, spending time with his family, and traveling. He was a wonderful carpenter and auto mechanic. Gib was baptized in the Baptist faith and his family remembers him as a true gentleman. Gib is survived by his wife of 71 years, Ada; daughters Rene and her husband Bob Fisher of Prineville, Nova Sweeney of Hillsboro, Oregon, and son Dale Simpson of Prineville, Oregon. Sister, Alice Bellomo of Sandy, Oregon, 9 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren. Gib was preceded in death by his parents, son Jim (Jan 2000), brothers, Kenneth, Jack, Ted, and sisters, Mildred, Virginia, Rebecca and June. Arrangements are in the care of the Prineville Funeral Home.
