Robert "Bob" Allen Carmichael of Tuolumne, California, died peacefully at Sonora Regional Medical Center after a battle with prostate cancer on Dec. 5, 2016. He was 67.
Robert was born on the Mendocino Coast in the town of Fort Bragg to Archie and Evelyn Carmichael. He attended local schools and graduated from Fort Bragg High School in 1967. After graduation, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and assigned to the 101st Airborne, where he served a tour in Vietnam as a door gunner from 1968-1969.
Later, Robert married his wife, Sharol, and they relocated to Tuolumne County and worked for Sierra Pacific Lumber for 15 years.
During Robert's life he enjoyed several hobbies, preferably model building and crafts. He enjoyed camping, fishing, yard work and cheering on his favorite team, the 49ers. His most enjoyable times were spent barbecuing with friends and family.
Robert was active in local veterans organizations for a number of years. He was a member of Chapter 391 of the Vietnam Veterans of America and Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 4748.
Preceding Robert in death were his mother and father; his uncles, Bo, Jewell and Dewitt Depriest and Fred Carmichael; his aunt, Shirley Depriest; grandparents, Oscar and Lucille Depriest and Thomas and Mary Carmichael; and his in-laws, Dave and Mary Hanreich.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Sharol, of Sonora; his daughter, Kristina, of Sonora; his son, Chad, of Tuolumne; his adoptive daughters, Julie Adams Jorgensen, of Spokane, Washington, and Heather Skay, of Tucson, Arizona; grandson, Dylan Carmichael, of Soulsbyville; his brothers, Eric, of Oakland, and Jon, of Soulsbyville; his sister, Betty Sue, of Fort Bragg; his nieces, Kara Bucci and her children, Kelsey Bucci, Nick Bucci and Kennedy Smith, all of Sonora, Amanda Tucker and her children, Madison, Mason and Mahayla, all of Kaufman, Texas; Kaede Pelkey and her husband, Evan, of California City, Monica Hanreich, of Sacramento; his nephews, Jason and Dustin Carmichael, both of Fort Bragg; sister-in-law, Karen Hanreich Bucci, of Sonora; and brothers-in-law, Mark Hanreich, of Tomales Bay, and Tony Bucci, of Sonora.
His request was to be cremated and his ashes scattered off the Mendocino Coast.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to any favorite charity in his name.
A celebration of life was held on Jan. 15, 2017.
