He was the son of Francois Berthiaume and Julie Dallaire, both of Canada. He was married to Marie Adeline (Celina) Perreault in 1883 in Canada. They had 13 known children together. Marie died in 1908, and is buried in St. Joseph Cemetery, Biddeford, Maine.

After Marie's death, he married a widowed Marie-Virginie (Cote) Barrett on November 24, 1914 in St. Johnsbury. She preceded him in death on May 5, 1930.

Stanisclas worked in textile mills in Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont for some years as a cutter. He took over as the sexton of Mount Calvary Church in St. Johnsbury, when his brother John died in 1923. Stanisclas worked there until his own death in 1946.
