Elizabeth Jean Grau nee Stonbraker, loving known as Liz, Betty, Jean, Jeannie, Elizabeth passed away peacefully on Monday, February 1, 2021 at the Ames Family Hospice House in Westlake, Ohio following a valiant battle with cancer. Liz is survived by her husband of 68 years, Carl August Grau and their children-Carl Douglas Grau of Westlake, Ohio, Cynthia Jane Lindgren (Ken) of Bay Village, Ohio and Scott Charles Grau of Glen Mills, Pennsylvania. Also survived by her twin sister, Joanne Evelyn Fox of Joliet, Illinois and four grandchildren-Karl Adam Lindgren (Jennifer) of Dundee, Michigan, Amanda Grau Cader (Ahmad) of Odessa, Florida, Erin Grau of New Braunfels, Texas and Andrew Grau of Bethany, Delaware. Great grandchildren Ethan Thomas Lindgren and Alexa Marie Lindgren of Dundee, Michigan and Paxton Muhaiyaddeen Cader of Odessa, Florida. Also remembered and loved by many nieces, nephews and friends. Liz was preceded in death by her parents and nine siblings.
Born and raised in Dayton, Pennsylvania to Carl Jewel Stonbraker and Mabel Ione McHenry, Liz and her twin sister were the youngest of 11. Her first five years were spent on the family farm until they moved into the center of the metropolis of Dayton (population 500). After high school, she worked at her father's butcher shop in Aspinwall, Pennsylvania delivering groceries. During her time there, a friend introduced her to her future husband, a Navy veteran. Following a short courtship, they married in a952 and lived in the Pittsburgh area. Carl's career with GM took Liz and family from Sharpsburg, Pennsylvania to Royal Oak, Michigan and, finally, to Westlake, Ohio.
Liz was a dedicated homemaker who was active in her children's school lives. Her passions were antiquing, interior design, reading and, in her younger years, dancing (particularly jitterbugging) with her twin. But her top priority and what she loved most was her family.
