Age 78 of the town of Wheatfield, unexpectedly, February 16, 2003 in Kenmore Mercy Hospital. Beloved husband of Phyllis (nee Schlueter) Hanes; father of Mark Hanes of Santa Barbara, CA and Karen (Tim) Shanahan of Amherst; papa of Megan and Holly; brother of Norman Hanes, Donald (Doris) Hanes, Lois (Richard) Howell, Howard Hanes, David (Eleanor) Hanes and the late Robert Hanes; uncle of many nieces and nephews. Mr. Hanes was a Marine Corp Veteran of WWII and a member of the AMVETS, Wheatfield Post 1451. He was a former employee of the Linde Division of Union Carbide. He enjoyed bowling, gardening and walking. Friends may call at the FRETTHOLD FUNERAL HOME, INC., 1241 Oliver St. at Ward Rd. in North Tonawanda on Wednesday from 7-9 PM. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11:00 AM from Salem United Church of Christ, 114 Morgan St., Tonawanda, the Rev. Alice McDermott will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Kenmore Mercy Hospital.
