After the death of his wife, Nancy Hughes, then William Jasper Hughes married Eva Owens on 23 November 1902. They remained husband and wife until their divorce in 1919. No children were born to this union.
He was a farmer. W. J. Hughes was a longtime member of the Church of Christ.
Survived by three children - Enos E. Hughes, Ida V. Hughes, Lula Darnell.. One son, James Harvey Hughes preceded his father in death.
William Jasper Hughes patented 160 acres in 1881 from the State of Texas. The land was fenced by 1910.
Ida Virginia Hughes married J.W. Lacy on 13 December 1893 in Eliasville, Texas. The couple divorced in 1918. She remarried on 3 May 1921.
