Bernard E. Laumer, 91, Spearfish passed away Sunday, December 2, 2007 at Spearfish.

Bernard Edward Laumer was born October 17, 1916 to William and Elizabeth Laumer in Brainard, NE. At about the age of 5, he moved with his parents to South Dakota. In 1927 he moved with his parents to the Newell, SD area.

In 1941 he married Alma Janke and they farmed and fed livestock in the Newell area until 1973 when they moved to Spearfish, living in the DeBerg addition until 1996 when they sold their home and moved to the Ponderosa Apartments.

While residing in Newell, Bernard served many years on the Newell school board and was an active member of the 1st Lutheran Church, serving on the council and always singing in the choir. He did custom farm work and after taking a TV correspondence course he started doing TV service from the time KOTA sent out a TV signal. He worked for the Gamble store in Newell and during a drought; he drove to Rapid City and worked in a TV shop there for several years. When he moved to Spearfish he worked for Don Nichols laying underground telephone cable in many areas of South Dakota. He sold his TV instruments when the home in Spearfish was sold.

Bernard was an active member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Spearfish, serving on the council at one time and singing in the choir many years. He leaves behind a host of brothers and sisters in Christ who have always been a joy in his life, fishing, prayer breakfasts and other activities.

Bernard is survived by his wife Alma of Spearfish; three sons, Lynn (Karen) Laumer of Spearfish; Jack Laumer of San Marcos, TX; and Joel (Rita) Laumer of Lennox, SD; one daughter Jill (Robert) Sand of Canyon Country, CA, ten grandchildren; Jason (Sara) Laumer, Appleton, WI, Kjersti (Scott) Deckert, Lincoln, NE, Peder Danika, Sioux Falls, SD, Kurt Laumer, Taylor, TX, Anne (Charles) Law, San Marcos, TX, Tracy (Brad) Jepson, Ankeny, IA, Karlie (Jamie) Piekkola, Crystal, MN, Zoe, Cassidy and Sophie Sand, Canyon Country, CA; ex daughter-in-law, Diane Laumer, San Marcos, TX, nine great-grandchildren; Christopher and Steffan Jepson, Abigail, Ethan and Isaac Laumer, Atarah and McKael Law; Nora & Maren Deckert, Lincoln, NE, one sister, Pauline Smith, Newell, SD, sister-in-law, Becky Pyle, Arlington, TX, and numerous nieces, nephews and sisters and brothers-in-law.
Bernard was preceded in death by his brothers, Rueben and William and sisters, Gertrude Carleson and Violette Ahonen.

Funeral services will be held Friday, December 7, 2007 at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Spearfish. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery.
