JOHN R. ALBEE

John R. Albee, 78, a resident of the Cornelius community, died Wednesday morning, April 26, 2006 surrounded by his family at his home.
A Celebration of John's Life will be held on Saturday, April 29, 2006 at 2:00 PM at the Emanuel Lutheran Church, 1124 S. Beech Street in Cornelius, with Reverend Tom Hiller, officiating. Graveside Services with a Flag Honor Presentation will be held on Monday, May 1, 2006 at 11:00 AM at the Olney Cemetery in Pendleton, Oregon., with Reverend Richard Pounds of the Peace Lutheran Church in Pendleton, officiating.
Family and friends are invited to attend a reception immediately following the church service, to be held in the Parish Hall at the church.
JOHN RAYMOND ALBEE was born August 26, 1927 in Pendleton, Oregon, to William and Georgia (Marquis) Albee. He was raised in Oregon attending schools in Pendleton and Ontario, graduating from Oregon City High School in 1945.
John joined the United States Navy in June of 1945 and served as a submarine tender in Hawaii before being honorably discharged in July 1946. He furthered his education by attending OTI in Klamath Falls. He was employed with First National Bank in Klamath Falls from 1948 to 1952. Active duty called again but this time for two years with the United States Army as a PT Harbor craft operator in Okinawa. Upon his return, he continued his work with First National Bank but in Pendleton, Oregon as a field representative.
On September 10, 1955, he married Marie Weinke at Peace Lutheran Church in Pendleton, Oregon. His next career move would last almost forty years working for Stein's Valley Beverage, Inc. as a route salesman for thirty-one years and then Coast Distributing for another six years. His semi-retirement included driving school bus for two years that ended when his wife, Marie, passed away on April 29, 1995.
John was an Elks member for approximately fifty-six years. He served on the Cornelius Fire Department for thirty-one years and was given recognition as a life member. He was a Hall of Fame Life Member of the Pendleton Roundup. The family home was only blocks away from the Roundup grounds and he had many fond memories of the Roundup.
Over the years, John's hobbies changed from snow skiing, bowling, swimming, horses and refinishing furniture to reading, playing cards, hunting, fishing, spending time in the mountains at his cabin, and being with his family and friends.
He was also preceded in death by his parents and a son-in-law, Brian Smallwood.
John is survived by a daughter, Kathy Smallwood of Bend, Oregon; a son and daughter-in-law, Kurt and Elonda Albee of Hillsboro, Oregon; a son, Jack Robbins of Roseburg, Oregon; a brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Susan Albee of Cove, Oregon; and a sister and brother-in-law, Joanne and Don Webb of Pendleton, Oregon.
Also surviving are four grandchildren, Ashley Albee, Colby Smallwood, Nick Robbins and Shane Robbins, and twenty-one nieces and nephews.
The family suggests remembrances may be made to the Cornelius Firefighter's Association, c/o Cornelius Fire Department, 1311 N. Barlow, Cornelius, Oregon 97113 or to the John R. Albee Memorial Fund, c/o Emanuel Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 505, Cornelius, Oregon 97113, in his memory.
