Betty Ruth Brost Girard, 85, passed away Friday, February 1, 2013 at her home.

She was born May 22, 1927 in Alliance, Nebraska at St. Joseph's Hospital to Christy and Ruth (Hutchinson) Brost.

She spent her childhood in Lusk, Wyoming and on a ranch outside of Lusk, moving to Alliance when a senior in high school. She attended Chadron State College earning a teaching degree. She taught in country schools around the area.

On August 21, 1951 she married the love of her life, Bernard Girard. She continued to teach through the years while her family grew, teaching art in the elementary schools during her last teaching years.

She was a bookkeeper at Bernie's Supply, owned a kitchen shop called the Country Store, and operated her preschool, "Animal Crackers". She was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, the Eagles Auxiliary, Carnegie Arts Center, Box Butte General Hospital Auxiliary, and Box Butte Arts Society. She also enjoyed many social groups in the community including the Red Hat Society.

She is survived by her husband, Bernard Girard of the home; sons, Jeff, Dennis, Ande, Terry and Jason, all of Alliance, and Jack of Ohio; daughters, Cindy Powell Girard of Rapid City and Erin Shrewsbury of Alliance; 21 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers, Christy Brost of Alliance, Eddie Brost of Sturgis, SD, Bryan Brost of Lusk, WY, and James Brost of Hot Springs, SD; her sister, Rebecca Brost Girty of Alliance; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, two grandsons, and brothers Fred, Herman and Bruce.

Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, February 11, at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Father Lou Nollette will officiate. Wake services will be held Sunday, February 10 at 7:00 p.m. at the church.
