Mr. Abbie "Captain Abbie" Anthony Pierre, 78, died Sunday, December 2, 2007 as a result of a prolonged illness. Mr. Pierre was born December 2, 1929 by midwife in Dulac, La. He grew up in Dulac where he mastered the trade of commercial fisherman at the young age of 16 and began to captain his own crews. He moved to Lafayette in the spring of 1964. At the age of 40 he struck out on his own and with the support of his wife proceeded to build a very successful business.

During his time at home Abbie enjoyed gardening and made it his full-time passion after retiring in 1995. He always shared his bounty with family and friends alike. Throughout his life, Abbie loved to cook and entertain. It was his greatest joy in the last years of his life to gather his family together and feed them. He was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Lafayette.
