Michael Francis Blake, a sophomore at Marshall University, died in a chartered jet airliner crash. Mike was player #67 and played offensive linebacker for the football team. He was a graduate of Huntington East High School, where he was chosen First Team All-Stater at guard.

He was also the 1969 heavyweight state champion (18-0) wrestling champion -- the first ever state wrestling champion from Huntington East. His picture hangs on the wall at the new Huntington High School.

Southern Airlines Flight 932, left Kinston, North Carolina, at 6:38 p.m., carrying the Marshall University football team, coaching staff and fans to Huntington, West Virginia. The weather conditions were poor, mist and light rain with broken clouds. The plane descended below the Minimum Descent Altitude, striking trees on a hillside about one mile from the runway. The plane then crashed and burned. All 75 passengers on board were killed.

Mike was the son of Mr. & Mrs. Harry Goheen, Jr. He also left a sister, Deborah Goheen.
