Martin Minarcin, 87, of the North Vandergrift section of Parks Township, died Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2007, in his residence. He was born March 15, 1920, in North Vandergrift, the son of the late Martin and Amelia (Zilary) Minarcin, and had lived in North Vandergrift all his life. Prior to his retirement, he had been employed at the West Leechburg Works of Allegheny Ludlum in the shipping department. Mr. Minarcin was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II. He was a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in East Vandergrift and the VFW of Vandergrift. He enjoyed crossword puzzles, puttering in the yard and watching birds. He also enjoyed watching all kinds of sports. Survivors include a son, Edward (Bettie) Minarcin, of North Vandergrift; a daughter, Patty (Allen) Stoltzfus, of Parks Township; his grandchildren, Gretchen (Michael) Ocilka, Melissa (Dominick) DiAscro, Anita Marie Minarcin, Rebecca Stoltzfus, Edward (Rochelle) Minarcin Jr., Christopher Minarcin and Benjamin Stoltzfus; his great-grandchildren, Lucas Dunmire and Dakota DiAscro; three brothers, Rudy Minarcin, of North Vandergrift, Richard Minarcin, of Woodland Hills, Calif., and John Minarcin, of Oneonta, N.Y., and three sisters, Julia Blanciak and Betty Mitcheson, both of North Vandergrift, and Mary Minarcin, of Livingston, N.J. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary (Mazak) Minarcin; a sister, Helen Linkes; infant brother Joseph Minarcin, and brother Steve "Slim" Minarcin. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in the DUNMIRE-KERR FUNERAL HOME INC., 244 Franklin Ave., Vandergrift. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church, East Vandergrift, with the Rev. Michael Sciberras as celebrant. Interment will be in St. Gertrude Cemetery, Vandergrift. The Vandergrift Veteran Honor Guard will provide military honors.
