The Quaker's New Castle meeting house was built in 1705, the land was originally acquired by Friends including John's father.
"New Castle Deed Book B- 1, p. 173, Parcel D-3: after 16 April 1698, Joseph Griffin to John Hussey, Sr. , farmer; George Hogg, cordwainer, and Benjamin Swett, tanner. Dimensions 120' by 300f, originally granted by William Penn to Vanderculin, who left it to Cornelis Kettle and Andrew Cock by will in 1694. The legatees sold it to Griffin in 1698."
As the graves were unmarked, over the years much of the burial ground was built over with structures, as cellars were dug, human remains were found.
