ADAM, Hugh Douglas
Born August 13,1921 in Davidson Saskatchewan, passed away in his 98th year on August 28, 2018 in Ottawa, Ontario. Loving husband of the late Doreen Adam (Sparling), dear father of Sharon (Paul Brez), John (Jennifer) and David (Margaret). Cherished Grandfather of Derek (Amanda) Brez, Ryan (Eunice) Brez, Alexandra, Morgan, Andrew and Laura Adam. Much loved Great Grandpa to Aria, Addison, Evelyn, Mason, and Wesley Brez. Predeceased by older brothers George and Norman Adam.
Hugh dedicated himself to his family, faithfully served his church, community, and country. After WWII he studied Electrical Engineering at the University of Saskatchewan then moved to Ottawa to work for the Department of National Defence. Throughout his career Hugh provided leadership to the establishment and implementation of wide ranging standards both in Canada and internationally, most notably as a founding Director at the Standards Council of Canada. He was well travelled, philosophical, principled, well informed, funny, and able to fix most anything.
Much thanks to the staff at Stillwater Creek Retirement Residence, to Dr. Paul Hacker, Dr. Bright, the At Home Hospice nurses and to Dr. Luc Beauchesne and the Ottawa Heart Institute team for the excellent care they provided to Hugh and his family.
Family and friends are invited to visit at the West Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry 150 Woodroffe Ave. (at Richmond Rd.) Ottawa on Saturday September 1, 2018 from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. Funeral Service will be held at Woodroffe United Church Saturday at 11:30 a.m. Memorial donations to the The Ottawa Heart Institute, CNIB, Woodroffe United Church or Kiwanis of Sage would be appreciated.
