Deceased was in his usual health the day before his death and attended a softball game at the N.L.A.S. grounds that evening. It was shortly after he returned to his home from this event that he was stricken with the trouble that ended his life. Mr Scheel was born in McNab Township, Renfrew County, a son of the late August J. Scheel and his wife Mary Popkey. After leaving the farm he entered the employment of the C.P.R. as sectionman at Arnprior and some years later went to Renfrew as section foreman. In 1922 he came to Almonte in a similar capacity and it was often said of him that he was one of the best maintenance of way men the company had employ. In 1910, Mr Scheel married Bertha Schaven, who survives him together with one son and three daughters, namely, Norman, Mrs Kenneth Johnston (Esther), and Miss Alice, all of Almonte. One daughter, Lillian, predeceased him eight years ago. He also leaves three brothers and two sisters – Andrew on the farm in McNab; Alex and Fred in Arnprior; Mrs Walter Sales (Lena) of Arnprior, and Mrs George Watson (Martha) of Callander. Mr Scheel was a member of the local Baptist Church. The funeral was held this Thursday afternoon to the Auld Kirk Cemetery, Rev Wm Aird conducting services at the home and grave. The death of Mr Scheel came as a shock to his friends and acquaintances, for although in indifferent health for the past three years, he had been around as usual up to the last.
