On August 31, 2021, Ernest Ruben Amezcua, known to almost everyone as "Pop", died of what Los Alamitos hospital listed as Covid. He was born July 22, 1931 in Downey, CA to Enrique and Concha Amezcua. He is the 2nd of 6 children. Henry, the oldest, preceded Ernest in passing; Still living are his brothers: Hector, Raul, and Al Amezcua and their baby sister, Irene Silva.
Ernest married Alice Medina on Dec. 30,1951. They bought a home in Artesia, CA where they raised their 3 children: Carolyn, Dan, and Ernie Jr. They have 2 granddaughters, Michele Deanne Sanchez and Nicole Alicia Amezcua. Colee was born just before "Grammy" died. He has 5 great-grandchildren: Zachary and Kenna Johnson, and Natalie, Matthew, and Morgan Roberts. Pop was blessed to have spent 9 proud years with his great-great-grandaughter, Alanna Rose.
Ernest owned and operated Hector's Furniture alongside his brothers where he spent almost every day with "the boys" until they closed the doors and finally retired in 2019. Ernest was a golfer, an awesome husband and family man, and an esteemed member of his community- serving as The President of The Lions Club in Artesia, CA. He is a legend and will be missed by so many.
