Fred W. Adams, 90, of Hershey, and a lifelong resident of Marysville, died Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2002 while visiting the home of his daughter in Bennettsville, S.C.

He was the founder and former owner/president of West Shore Oil Co., Marysville; a graduate of Marysville High School; an Army sergeant in the 957th Ordnance H Auto Company at Camp Polk, La., during World War II; a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Marysville, Marysville VFW and Golden Age Club of Marysville; a life member of Marysville Fire Company; last founding member of Marysville Lions Club; former Man of the Year of Marysville; retired bank advisory board member of CCNB Bank; an avid golfer who played golf with Milton Hershey; former square dancer in several local square dance clubs; instrumental in starting Little League baseball and supported girls softball in Marysville; instrumental in helping modernize utilities and municipal services in Marysville; and assisted many people with various humanitarian acts throughout his lifetime, providing services, products and money when the need arose.

He was the widower of Hazel Adams, to whom he was married 53 years.

Surviving are a daughter, Georgia Tennant of Bennettsville, S.C.; a son, Fred W. Jr. of Hershey; three granddaughters, Sharon Harclerode and Kathy Hoover, both of Marysville, and Jillian Adams of Baltimore; four grandsons, Jeff Bornman and Jimmy Hoover, both of Marysville, and Brandon Adams and Chad Adams, both of Hershey; and eight great-grandchildren.

A memorial service was held Dec. 21 in Wesley United Methodist Church, Marysville. Burial was in Chestnut Grove Cemetery, Marysville.
