. Charlie Thompson, age 69, of Mt. Vernon, died Thursday, September 2, 2021, at the Community Hospice House in Vidalia after a brief illness. He was a lifelong resident of Mt. Vernon and was a 1970 graduate of Montgomery County High School. He earned a Bachelor's degree in Accounting from Georgia Southern University in Statesboro. He was an industrial construction manager working with S.M.C. and T.I.C. for many years before retiring in 2017. Charlie was a member of the First Baptist Church of Mt. Vernon; and he was an avid outdoorsman, and especially enjoyed hunting and fishing. He is preceded in death by his parents, Louis Hall Thompson and Eloise Ennis Thompson.

His family includes his wife, Shirley Thompson of Mt. Vernon; three sons, Keith Shead and wife Laura of Jesup, Kris Shead and wife Dana of Brunswick, and Matt Foskey and wife Stephanie of Vidalia; one brother, Louie Thompson and wife Ann of Mt. Vernon; one sister, Vickie Thompson Gaultney of Lyons; eight grandchildren, Lindsay Garner and husband David, Tyler Shead and wife Shelby, Shelby Prescott and husband Hunter, Carrigan Thompson, Chase Thompson, Kenlee Foskey, Jeremy Foskey, and Nick Foskey; three great-grandchildren, Perryn Gardner, Riley Shead, and Oaklyn Gardner; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday morning from 10:00 until just prior to the service.

The funeral service will be Tuesday, September 7th, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Pastor Bobby Thompson and Pastor Karl Hay officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 4849 Paulsen St., Suite 102, Savannah, GA 31405, or to the Community Hospice Foundation, PO Box 2277, Vidalia, GA 30475.
