She spent many years as a truck driver, mostly raising her sons as a single mother. In April 1985 a steering tire blew on the truck she was driving and it veered off the road and landed in a creek between two bridge abutments. Not much of the truck was left but she managed to survive. She was in the hospital in Fort Smith for a long time and then transferred to Tulsa where she remained in the hospital for another extended time. In spite of her multiple injuries she made it back and got on with life, a remarkable lady in her own way. She had numerous friends and a large family. In later years she returned to where she had been born to be with family and friends. Her last address was 318 SW 3rd where she had a home across from the local church.
