Funeral services for Alvin E. Brahms, 87, of Cumberland, were held Wednesday, October 12, 1988 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Lutheran Church south of Wiota. Mr. Brahms passed away at Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Anita on Sunday, October 9.
Officiating at the service was Pastor Leland Schmidt. Music was provided by Mrs. Don Steffens, organist, with the congregation signing tow selections. Arlene Wickey and Mr. and Mrs. Walter Rathman were in charge of flowers. Casketbearers were Ralph Wickey, Donald Brahms, Delbert Hagen, Dick Kralik, David Brahms, and Mike Brahms.
Interment was in the First Lutheran Cemetery. Roland's Funeral Service of Atlantic was in charge of arrangements.
The son of George S. and Johanna Margaret Borchers Brahms, he was born September 22, 1901 on a farm in rural Cumberland and lived there until 1908. He lived in Cumberland the next 15 years and graduated from Cumberland High School in 1919. He moved back to the farm and lived there 25 years before moving back to Cumberland. Besides farming, Mr. Brahms was a substitute mail carrier for 21 years. He was a member of First Lutheran Church south of Wiota, and the Lions Club and Businessmen's Club at Cumberland.
He is survived by sister-in-law Olga Brahms of Atlantic, and cousin Donald Brahms of Cumberland. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother John Brahms.
