In Sallisaw, Cliff went into business with Margie's cousin at Mattox's Auto Service, where he worked as a mechanic for 13 years. Cliff was a quiet, friendly man. He was helpful to his friends and neighbors, and he enjoyed reading.

In 2023, it was discovered through DNA profiling via Ancestry.com, that Cliff is the biological father of Edward Andrew Caldwell . Cliff and Edward's mother, Trudy, were childhood neighbors and friends, but apparently not well-suited enough to have a life together. We will likely never know why they made the choices they made.
