John Hurst Montgomery, son of Smith and Isabel Montgomery, was born in Preble county, Ohio, April 1st, 1875 and died at the home of his father near Eaton, July 23, 1900 aged 25 years, 4 months and 22 days. He was one in a family of seven and the first to enter the spirit land. he was married to Alma Boner, October 19, 1897, with whom he lived happy and in whom he found an undying love, the heart of which broke when he died. he leaves a sorely bereaved father and mother, two brothers, four sisters and a grief-stricken wife to mourn his departure. The deceased was a genial companion, a faithful friend and withal a worthy man. he made a heroic fight for life, battling against great odds he yet baffled death for many months. in his struggle he was assisted by the family and supported and sustained by the presence, love and attention of the one to whom more than all others he looked for human help and sympathy, in which hope he was never disappointed. He believed in an All wise and just Creator in whom he trusted for salvation. He was patient in his suffering, gentle in his spirit, obliging in his relationships to others, and will be sadly missed by all who knew him. The deceased was very friendly and drew to himself many very desirable and agreeable companions before whom he set an example of uprightness and honor. The funeral services were conducted at the home by Rev. J.F. Burnett, Music by a selected quartette.
