He was an old settler of Anderson county, Kansas, born in Allborough, England, in 1828. He came to America at the age of fourteen with a sister and settled in Scott county, Illinois. Later moving to Logan county, Illinois where on June 8, 1854, he was married to Clarinda Huffman. Four boys and five girls were born. In August 1880 he moved to Anderson county, Kansas.
He leaves children Mrs. Amanda E. Hunley, of Garnett, Kansas; Joseph E. Nelson of Parker, Kansas; Robert E. Nelson, of Garnett, Kansas, Annie E. Mitchell, of Prosser, Washington.
