After high school John started working for the City of Austin and later joined the Trucking Industry where he hauled construction equipment, building supplies, and a variety of other materials across the 49 states. Known as Fly-By-Night, he never missed a deadline.
John had a fun-loving personality and a great sense of humor. Even in difficult times, John found a way to brighten the room with a joke or playful banter. His carefree and easy-going demeanor made people gravitate to him.
After 74 years of blessings God in his infinite wisdom has called John from labor to reward on August 27, 2021. He exchanged his cross for a crown. John is preceded in death by his parents- Herbert and Ella Mae Smith, sister, Emma Davis, Herbert Smith Jr. (Josephine of Austin Texas), James Smith and Larry Smith.
John's legacy will live on through his six children, his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a host of cousins, and friends.
Home-Going Celebration graveside at Clearview Cemetery of Bastrop, Saturday, September 4th.
