Mattie was the fifth of 11 children born to Lucy Louisa Browning Brewer and Benjamin Edco Ellis Brewer. She grew up on a farm near Arkadelphia, Arkansas. On July 5, 1924 she married Howard Andrew Todd. They were married just over 55 years when Howard passed away. Their five children were Amy Sue Todd Nowlin, Opal Naomi Todd Brashier, Howard Edward Todd, Tommy Louis Todd, and Jackie Eugene Todd. Mattie was preceded in death by her husband, Howard, and her daughter, Opal. She was a loving mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a wonderful cook and was happiest in her kitchen and dining room when surrounded with family and friends. She loved to sew and make her own clothes. She was loved by everyone who knew her and she never met a stranger. Nothing was as important to her as her family and their well being. After the children were older and in school, she spent a lot of her life working outside the home, but she made sure the family never suffered as a result.
