He was born January 4, 1944 at Smoke Hole, WV and was the son of the late Virgil O. Kimble and Areba Barger Kimble.
He was a 1963 graduate of Franklin High School and worked for General Motors in Baltimore, Franklin Oil Company, Richardson-Wayland Electrical Company, and retired from New River Electrical in 2009. He attended Ruddle Presbyterian Church.
He had a passion for woodworking and operated his own sawmill at Ruddle. Shirl loved taking care of Bryce, Brantley and Braylee Propst, who called him Pappy.
On April 18, 1963, he married Karen George Kimble, who survives.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Ronald Kimble; one sister, Marilyn Thorne and one step-grandson, Devin Alt.
Friends will be received from 6:00 – 8:00 PM Wednesday, September 1, 2021 at Kimble Funeral Home, 80 South Main Street in Franklin, where a funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, September 2 in the funeral home chapel with Pastor P. J. Landis officiating.
Interment will be at the Ruddle Church Cemetery.
