Sam passed away at his home in Wills Point on November 14th, 2007 after a ten year, long and courageous fight with cancer. While he had made his home in Wills Point for the last ten years with his second wife, he had lived all over the world, having served in the Navy for 31 years as a helicopter and aircraft pilot. He was awarded 17 commendation medals including the Purple Heart and the Distinguished Flying Cross before his retirement in 1976. He was also proud that he was chosen to pick up astronauts, Jim Lovell and Buzz Aldren after landing from their space mission.

Preceded by first wife, Erleen. Survived by wife, Peggy Carnahan whom he married on 12/20/1996.
