August was the Third Son of Anders Andersson Brodine and Ann Andersdotter. August was a sturdy Lad, He was, perhaps, less aggressive than his brothers. Yet able to hold his own in playtime adventures. When he had finished the sixth grade, he, too, took his place along side the others in the forest. Forestry and carpentry were the trades he learned from his youth in the trees of Westmanland, Sweden.

In the fall of 1878 plans for August and Otto (10 yrs old) to immigrate to America and meet up with there brothers Fredrick and Andrew. The records indicate that August and Otto departed Sweden July 26, 1879. However, according to records in Gothenburg, they were to board their ship, the Orlando which left Gothenburg August8, 1879. We must assume they left the Parrish of Nora (Home) for Gothenburg almost two months weeks ahead of departure. Travel to Gothenburg must have taken several days. They were not taking any chances of "missing the boat."
Fall of 1879 found three more Andersson in Bishop Hill. Per Erik (Pete) arrived earlier having left Gothenburg on the steamship Rollo in April 24.

August Adapted well to the life if a ranch-hand. He learned to ride and rope. He got along well with the men. So well, in fact, that within a year he was made foreman. He was given responsibility for a herd, and the men to work it.

After five years of hard work and saving their money August and Otto were ready to head for Nebraska where they would begin life again on land of their own. And where they would be reunited with their family. 1885 is the year that Anders Andersson would realize his dream. He will have his family all in America. Not only that. He will have them all in the same community, in western Buffalo county, Nebraska.

August married Maria Larsdotter on November, 1886 Maria was the daughter to Lars Larsson and Anna olofsdotter of Ginka, Ostervala, Sweden not far from Bro Sweden. It is likely that these two families were acquainted in Sweden.
It was there in Elm Creek Nebraska that all of there children were born except the youngest. There names were Paul; Edward, Minnie, Mary, Alfred, and Frank.
The Brodines could not escape the military. Augusts oldest son, Edward was drafted in the army in WWI. He was killed in France in 1918.
August was active in the community. He was on the school board.
Never did they have a desire to return to Sweden, not even for a visit. None ever did.
