Donal was born April 3, 1932 in Pascagoula, Miss. to Harry and Ada (Bishop) Bemis. He was married to Lillian Callaway Bemis for 44 years.
He is survived by his wife, Lillian, of Gulf Shores; his son, Ken Kichlerand his wife Marcy of Gulf Shores; his son, Stephen Kichler and his wife Saundra of Gulf Shores; his daughter, Margaret Jayne Sharp and her husband John of Daphne; his grandchildren, Savannah and Stephen Kichler; and his dog and cat.
Donal was a 1950 graduate of Foley High School, and he served in the United States Navy during the Korean War until 1954.
After he completed his military service, he spent almost 40 years as a commercial fisherman. He finished his career as a municipal employee for the city of Gulf Shores.
He enjoyed life with his family and friends, and he especially enjoyed University of Alabama football and telling jokes.
Visitation will be held from noon until 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2015 at Holy Spirit Episcopal Church, 616 W. Fort Morgan Road in Gulf Shores.
A memorial service will begin at 1 p.m.
