Donald Curtis Blankenship, 61, of Lynchburg went to be with the Lord on Monday, November 26, 2007 at Virginia Baptist Hospital, after a long illness. Born November 8, 1946 in Campbell County, he was a son of the late Jessie Curtis and Irene Hall Blankenship and was also preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Thomas Jamerson. Don was U.S. Army, SP5-E-5, with the 199th Infantry Brigade. He served during the Vietnam War from 1966 -1968 and always kept in remembrance, fallen comrades and honored POWs. Don worked for RR Donnelly and Lynchburg Foundry. Don at tended the New London Academy in Forest and was a member of American Legion Post 16 and Evington United Methodist Church. Don is survived by his son, Daniel Blankenship; daughter, Rhonda Beverley; grandchildren, whom he loved dearly, Dakota Beverley, Derrick Blankenship, Jessie Beverley, Jordyn Beverley, and Taylor Blankenship. He is also survived by sisters and brothers, Nancy B. Jamerson, Pat and Cecil Eubank, Anita and Frank Large, and Kenny and Jennifer Blankenship and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, November 29, 2007 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel by the Reverend D. Jack Hamilton. Interment with military honors by American Legion Post 16 will follow in the Evington United Methodist Church Cemetery. A celebration of life will be held following the interment at American Legion Post 16 from 4-6 p.m. The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, November 28, 2007 at the funeral home. Those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to consider Evington United Methodist Church. The family wishes to especially thank Dr. Dwight S. Oldham and his staff at Lynchburg Hematology/Oncology for all the care and support given Don over the years he has been sick and also the staff at Virginia Baptist Hospital / Skilled care Unit and Out Patient Department. They would also like to thank Rev. D. Jack Hamilton and Dr. Don Wilson at Fairview Christian Church for their many visits and prayers during his illness.
