He was married to Rose Ellen (Hendrix) Sumner on December 17, 2007 in Benton County, Arkansas. He was a Veteran of the United States Army, an automotive recycler and of the Pentecostal faith.

2 brothers: Jess Sumner of Ramona, OK and Jerry Sumner of Ochelata, OK;

He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Dorothy Baker, Mildred Tayrien and Shirley Swan; and four brothers, Jake, Michael, Richard and Bill Sumner.
