William Earl Rains, 93, Eldon, died Oct. 17, 2002, in Jefferson City. He
was born Aug. 11, 1909, in Miller County, a son of Samuel D. and Bertha
Allen Rains. HE was married Sept. 7, 1938, in Eldon, to Audrey M.
Uptergrove Rains, who survives at the home.
He was a lifelong resident of the Eldon area. HE owned and
operated Rains Auto Service for 30 years. He was a member of the First
Baptist Church in Eldon, where he was active in the men's Sunday school
class. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.
Other survivors include: one son, Larry G. Rains, Jefferson
City; one daughter, Linda E. McMillian, Jefferson City; one sister, Lois
Helseth, Houston, Mo.; and two grandsons. One infant son, Jerry Lee Rains,
died in 1942.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Phillips Funeral Home in
Eldon. The Rev. Randall Bunch will officiate. Burial will be in Eldon City
Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1-3 p.m. Sunday. Memorials are suggested
to the First Baptist Church Building Fund.
