Fred J. Barbara, 59, retired Chicago Firefighter, passed away Nov. 22, 2014. Beloved husband of Gilda "Gigi" (nee Bruni); loving father of Fred A. and Jacqueline (Robert) Evenboer; son of Nancy, nee Ledato and the late Fred P. Barbara; dearest son in law of the late Carmella Bruni; devoted brother in law and uncle of many. The Bridgeport native started his exemplary 32 year career with the Chicago Fire Department in September of 1979. Captain Barbara was awarded several department accommodations for bravery and displayed a level of commitment and dedication that earned him the immediate respect and admiration of all who worked with him, for him, and above all, ranking officers who relied on him to get the job done. His lasting dedication to his family as well as the Chicago Fire Department and its members will remain his legacy and a template for all who wear the uniform proudly. Captain Barbara was also a devoted member and Marshall with the San Rocco di Simbario Society. Funeral Sat., Nov. 29th, 9:15 a.m. from Smith-Corcoran Funeral Home, 6150 N. Cicero Ave., to St. Mary of the Woods Church for Mass at 10 a.m. Entombment All Saints Cemetery. Visitation Friday, 3 - 9 p.m.
