The Star-Mirror, Moscow, Idaho, 31 December 1908: "S.G. Curtis died at his home on North Main Street in this city about 5 p.m., December 25, of valvular trouble of the heart. He had been ill several weeks.

"The funeral was held from the home of the deceased at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon, the services being conducted by Rev. Hare, pastor of the Presbyterian church. Deceased was a prominent member of the Knights of Pythias and this order took charge of the services at the grave. He was also a member of the Artisans. A large concourse of friends and relatives followed the remains to the cemetery.

"S.G. Curtis was born at Maysville, Iowa, May 1, 1858. He was married December 25, 1878, to Miss Minnie Cain at Independence, Iowa. He came west in 1891, locating at Palouse, where he resided about four years, after which he came to Moscow, where he had since lived with his family, being engaged in the news stand and confectionary business.

"Deceased is survived by a wife, daughter, Grace, wife of M.L. Romig, and son, George; also by a grandson, Ronald, mother and brother at Ilo, a sister at Nez Perce and father in Iowa.

"Deceased was a kind father and loving husband and was liked and respected by all who knew him. He was held in high esteem by his brother members of the K. of P. lodge, of which he was an active member in good standing at the time of his death, which, sad to relate, occurred on the 30th anniversary of his wedding. The Star-Mirror joins a host of friends in extending sympathy to the bereaved family."
