Jonathan Jr. moved to South Carolina sometime in the 1810s. Jonathan first married Rachel Blackburn in 1811 in Abbeville, South Carolina. By 1820 Jonathan and Rachel separated. Jonathan married Susan Harden in South Carolina. Jonathan was initially a hatter before moving to South Carolina. By 1840 Jonathan became a teacher. Jonathan and his family with Susan moved to Augusta, Georgia by 1850 and then Appling County, Georgia.
Jonathan did not serve in the Revolutionary War because he was born after the war. Because Jonathan is named after his father Jonathan and never went by Jr. his grave was easily confused with his father's grave. His mother Elizabeth has a similar grave like Jonathan further adding to the confusion.
