James William Helton, USN Ret, age 83 of Bonifay, Florida, peacefully passed away August 13, 2021 after a long illness. He was born February 24, 1938, to Oscar Marion and Maude Landrum Helton in Franklin, Ohio. After attending Plant City High School, James served his nation with pride and honor ensuring aircrafts electronic systems ran smoothly. After 20 years in the Navy, he continued serving his nation for 20 more years as a civilian employee at Ft. Rucker, Alabama doing the same type of work he was so passionate about. In 1968, he married his High School sweetheart, Patricia June Simpson, his loving wife of 53 years. To this union a daughter Teresa Lynn was born. James also had two daughters from a previous marriage, Kathy Helene and Mary Jane. James was a loving, faithful husband and a good provider to his family. He served his country well. His family takes comfort in knowing that he is now walking on the streets of gold and rejoicing with Jesus Christ and they shall someday be with him again.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his eldest daughter, Kathy Helene White; his brothers, Bert Lavern, Otto Otis, Volney "Buck" Everett; and his sisters, Beulah Mae, Dorothy Marie, Ora Belle, Ella Elizabeth, Bessie Louise and Wanda Ruth.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, August 19, 2021 at Barrancus National Cemetery, 1 Cemetery Road, Pensacola, Florida 32508.
