Charles Michael Corfield
April 22, 1940 - August 12, 2021

U.S. Veteran

Charles Michael Corfield departed this life on August 12, 2021 at his home in Riverton at the age of 81. He was blessed to be surrounded by his wife, children, and grandchildren in the days prior to his passing.

Mike was born on April 22, 1940 to William and Doris Corfield in Salt Lake City, Utah. He received his undergraduate and post graduate degrees from Brigham Young University in 1970 and 1981 respectively.

Mike married his wife and eternal companion, Lucille Bailey, on October 29, 1965 in the Manti LDS Temple. They were married for 55 years.

Faith was the foundation of Mike's life. He was the first in his family to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, called to serve in "Blue Hawaii" from 1960 to 1962. Mike had a strong love of his Savior Jesus Christ and served him well in many capacities in the church over the years including Bishoprics, Stake High Council, Scouting programs, Temple Worker, and the Young Men's Organization.

Mike had a passion for teaching, coaching, and mentoring young people. He was able to develop long-lasting relationships with many of his students over the years. He taught Physical Education and Health at Westlake and Bennion Junior High School for 30 years. Mike was proud to help raise thousands of students who for decades affectionately called him "Coach Corfield." Though he coached many sports, Mike especially enjoyed coaching the volleyball team at Bennion, which won multiple championships.

National service was also a significant part of Mike's life. He retired from the Army Reserves as a Chief Warrant Officer 4 after 41 years of service. During that time, Mike supported base operations throughout the American West, predominantly in Washington and California. His family is most proud, however, of his recognition by the Boy Scouts with a Silver Beaver Award for his service to young people at home in Utah.

Mike's infectious smile and sense of humor radiated kindness and compassion to those around him. Though Mike's mobility was limited by his illness in his final years, his spirit was resilient. In the face of health issues, Mike constantly remained thankful that his loving and strong wife was by his side. Whenever guests dropped by for a visit, Mike was quick to exclaim, "I'm so thankful you're here!"

Mike was preceded in death by his father William, his mother Doris, and his siblings: Mary, Kathy, and Carolyn. He is survived by his sweet wife Lucille, and their five children, Scott (Alisa), Keri (Marcus), Tara (Mark), Cameron (Emily), Heath (Wess) and 12 beautiful grandchildren.

A viewing will be held at Broomhead Funeral Home on Tuesday, August 17th from 6:00PM – 8:00PM, 12600 S. 2200 W., Riverton, UT.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 18th at 11:00AM MST at the Riverton North Stake Center, 12345 S. 2700 W., Riverton, UT. The family will receive guests one hour prior.
