ABINGDON, Va. — Donald Walter Orander, 83, of Abingdon, and formerly of Bluefield, went to be with the Lord Tuesday, April 25, 2006 at the Chilhowie Valley Health Care Center in Chilhowie, Va.
Born July 10, 1923 in Crumpler, he was a son of the late Richard Orander and Ethel Dodson Orander. He was a graduate of the University of Louisville, a World War II veteran of the United States Army and a member of Grace United Methodist Church. He retired as the General Manager of General Telephone Company of the Southeast after 40 years of service.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Mabel Roland Orander; a brother, Kermit Orander.
Survivors include his daughter, Mrs. Donna Lynn Puckett and her husband John of Abingdon; his son, Mr. David Keith Orander and his wife Bonnie of Bluefield; four grandchildren, Erinn and Erick Puckett of Abingdon, Mrs. Carmen Mabe and her husband Mike of Princeton, and Ms. Elizabeth Orander and her fiancé Doug Baker of Princeton; sister, Clara Jean Stokes of Lake City, Fla.
Crypt-side rites and entombment will be held today, April 28, 2006 at the Mausoleum Chapel of Roselawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Princeton at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Carl Van Stavern and the Rev. D. Homer Steward officiating.
The family received friends Thursday, April 27, 2006 at Mercer Funeral Home & Crematory of Bluefield from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m.
The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the National Parkinson Foundation, Inc., 1501 NW 9th. Avenue, Bob Hope Road, Miami, FL 33136-1494.
