Russell Prater, 57, Passess suddenly- Russell A. Prater, 57, who was living on a acreage two miles south of Salem, died suddenly at 3:30 o'clock this morning, Feb. 9, 1970 at the family home. Mr. Prater had been feeling well and they had dinner guests Sunday evening. A native of Fargo, Mr. Prater was born Nov. 29, 1912, a son of the late William Prater and Eva Thompson Prater. He grew up in that area and attended the Fargo school. Sept. 29, 1935, he was married at Tarkio, Mo., to Miss Opal Michel. The couple established their home in Falls City until February of 1968 when they moved to a farm near Salem. Mr. Prater had worked in a filling station and was an operator himself for eight or nine years at the present location of Jack's Mobil Service, 1724 Harlan Street. He entered World War II, Sept. 3, 1943, and was located at Farragutt, Idaho, and received his discharge Nov. 1, 1944. Mr. Prater had been working in the Northview Skelly station and operated a Sacred Heart School bus for pupils in the Dawson area and also did some farming. He was a member of St. Peter and Paul's Catholic Church. Surviving besides his widow are a brother, Bruce W. Prater, Colorado Springs, Colo. a daughter died in infancy and a sister, Mrs. Amy Rilinger, preceded him in death in 1968. The body of Mr. Prater is here at Chaney-Hodgens-Sharrar Funeral Home where the rosary will be recited at 7:30 o'clock Wednesday evening. The funeral mass will be held at 9:30 o'clock Thursday morning in their chapel conducted by Father James O'Connor. Burial will be in the Falls City Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers: Paul Beck, Neal Thomas, Virgil Vohl, John Stalder, Jack Cooper and Don Felts.
