Philadelphia Daily News (PA) - October 16, 2006
Deceased Name: Albert J. Noce, 83, office manager

GUYS WHO grew up in South Philadelphia always had nicknames. It went with the territory. Sometimes people would be hard-pressed to tell you what the real names were. But Albert J Noce was deprived. All he got was "Al". "Because he knew many of his boyhood friends only by their colorful nicknames, he often didn't realize they had died unless their obituaries included those monikers," wrote his son-in-law, Jim Murphy, in an obituary. Noce, a retired office manager and bookkeeper for True Form Foundations in Sharon Hill and Darby for more than 40 years, an Army veteran and a man who could be counted on by friends and relatives to help with taxes and other financial matters, died Wednesday after a long illness. He was 83 and lived in Springfield, Delaware County. He grew up in the neighborhoods of 11th and Jessup streets and 9th and Mifflin. He graduated from Southeast Catholic High School. He later worked for a CPA firm and served in the Army. He married Carmela Baldino in 1948, and moved to Westbrook Park, in Delaware County, in 1949 and to Springfield in 1955. His son-in-law described him as "a quiet man who cherished longtime friends. He focused on his family, faith and friends." In fact, Murphy said, an 86-year-old buddy visited Noce the week he died. In addition to helping family and friends with tax matters, Noce handled finances for his wife's travel group, Carmela's Angels. She died in May 2004. Noce walked every day to Mass at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Springfield. He also volunteered on Sunday mornings in the accounting office of St. Dorothy's Church, in Drexel Hill, where his daughter, Joann Dougherty, is a parishioner. He is survived by two other daughters, Rosemary Noce-Murphy and Rita Donahue; a son, Albert J. Jr; a sister, Sister Rose Branca; and nine grandchildren. Services: 10 a.m. today at St Dorothy's Church in Drexel Hill. Friends may call at 9 a.m. at the O'Leary Funeral Home, 640 E. Springfield Rd., Springfield. Burial will be in Ss. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Marple. Contributions may be made to Delaware County Memorial Hospital Hospice, 5030 State Road, Suite 3001, Drexel Hill PA 19026, or St. Dorothy's Church, 4910 Township Line Road, Drexel Hill.
