Omer was the son of Abraham Everett and Priscilla Ellen (Farmer) Hornaday. He married Pearl Bryant in November 1898 in Plainfield, Hendricks County, Indiana. Pearl died in September 1903. He married Anna Chenoweth in Danville, Vermillion County, Illinois on October 16, 1906.

In 1910, he and Anna were living in Vernon Township, Washington County, Indiana. There were two children, Paul, age 9, who was the son of Pearl and Constance, age 2, who was the daughter of Anna.

His WWI draft registration has his birth information and recorded his build as medium and his height as medium. He had blue eyes and light hair.

In 1920, they were living in Brownsburg and had added a daughter, Margaret, about 1913. In 1930, Margaret was the only child still living at home.
