Allen Kingsley Boyd
June 5, 1936 ~ July 22, 2021 (age 85)

Allen Kingsley Boyd passed away on July 22, 2021 at Medicalodges. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 5th, 2021 at 11:00am at Potts Chapel.

Allen was born June 5, 1936 in Madison, WI. Al was from a family of 10 boys and 3 girls. There are 4 surviving siblings.

Allen spent his teen years working on a farm until he joined the Air Force in 1955 at the age of 19. After several different bases for training he was assigned to Smokey Point AFB, Salina, KS (later changing to Schilling AFB). Where he met and married Ellen Pasternak on June 3, 1956. He was stationed at Schilling for 7 years. He was reassigned to Ellsworth AFB, Rapid City SD where he spent 6 ½ years. He was reassigned to Altus AFB OK, where he spent only one year before returning to Ellsworth AFB for another 7 ½ years until he retired in 1977. He loved the Air Force and even said at one time he'd reenlist if they'd take him back.

While in the Air Force Allen was an "In Flight Refueling Specialist" aka "boom operator". During the Vietnam war he refueled tankers, in the air, heading into war. This lasted from 1961-1973.

Allen and family moved to Independence, KS when he retired from the Air Force. He worked for the post office, then Bruest until he retired.

Allen was a member of the VFW since 1977. He was very involved holding many positions including Commander 85-86. Allen helped with so many programs and projects during his time with the VFW.

He was well liked in the community. We meet people all the time that say they just loved Al. He will be forever missed.

He is survived by his wife Ellen, son, Rick Boyd of Independence, daughter, Vicki (Scott) Hufford of Vida, Oregon, grandchildren: Evan (Elida) Hufford of Granite Falls, WA and Lisa Hufford of Springfield, OR. , three great-grandchildren: Violet, Lincoln and Reid. He had one son, Lonnie, who died at birth.

Donations can be made to the VFW in his honor.

Reception will be held at the VFW immediately following the service.
